ACT NOW! Stop dangerous diesel soot!

Tell our Congressional representatives to amend this bill to ensure that these new construction projects don't use dirty equipment that adds to air pollution already threatening our health. We need to spend our dollars wisely, and adding clean diesel construction language is a smart way to ensure our air gets cleaner in the metropolitan Chicago region!

Please send a letter to the EPA urging them to use 2011 air monitoring data that clearly demonstrates how our region’s health is threatened by air pollution and that we still need support to clean up our air and keep our lungs safe!

Thank your senators for standing up for lung health

On November 10, the U.S. Senate voted on a bill proposed by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky that would have repealed a Clean Air Act-driven requirement for coal power plants to cut their deadly smog and soot air pollution. Senator Paul’s misguided efforts would have meant the deaths of up to 34,000 people every single year, and this bad bill was just barely defeated in the Senate.

Thankfully, Senators Kirk and Durbin voted against the legislation and have made the right choice to protect our health. Send them a note today to thank them for their support and to encourage them to stand strong for clean air!

Tell Springfield we don't want dirty electricity

This week, the Illinois General Assembly may vote on a bill - Senate Bill 1653 - that would subsidize building a new, dirty coal power plant upwind of metropolitan Chicago. That means we’d be breathing hundreds of tons of deadly air pollution every year for decades to come. Plus, every utility customer would directly subsidize the $3.6 billion construction though higher power bills, as the state would force your electric company to buy the more expensive dirty power it makes for the next 30 years.

We need policies to increase clean, proven renewable energy sources, not ones that lock us into the dirtiest and most health-damaging energy sources. Tell your legislators to vote NO on this bill today!

UPDATE 3:45 P.M. 10/25/11: The name of this bill has changed to SB 687: Illinois Renewable Electricity Resources Act. The letter to your legislators has been updated accordingly.
