Act Now! - Urge Your Representative to Support Cancer Patient Treatment Education
On April 2, Reps. Steve Israel (D-NY) and Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) introduced the Assuring and Improving Cancer Treatment Education and Cancer Symptom Management Act of 2009 (H.R. 1927). This bill would provide Medicare reimbursement for an oncology nurse to spend up to an hour talking to a patient about their treatment, its side-effects and how to mitigate those side-effects. The bill would also help ensure patients access the treatment education by waiving the application of Medicare coinsurance requirements. Finally, this legislation would call for an expansion of research regarding symptom management and oncology nursing interventions through the National Institutes of Health and the Institute of Medicine.
Your urgent action is needed: Urge your elected officials to co-sponsor H.R. 1927 today!
All blood cancer patients would benefit from receiving treatment education services and expanded research into symptom management.
