Overreaching Climate Change Legislation Will Cost Jobs and Drive Up Energy Prices
Decisions made this year could affect our nation’s energy security for decades to come. It is critical that members of the Partnership for America’s Energy Security contact their U.S. Senators to voice their opposition to overreaching climate change legislation.
This summer, The House of Representatives passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill by a narrow margin. And now, the Senate has presented its version of climate legislation, the Kerry-Boxer bill, which like the House version would cause fuel costs to skyrocket for American consumers and businesses, increase our dependence on foreign energy, and cost thousands of U.S. jobs—without addressing climate change in any meaningful way. We need the Senate to take a more sensible approach. .
Please email and call your U.S. Senators, urging them to reject unsound climate change policies like those in the Kerry-Boxer bill. Encourage them instead to support a balanced energy policy.
It is critical that members of Congress hear from you in support of a comprehensive, balanced, long-term energy strategy for this country. This starts with support for an energy strategy that encourages the production of all forms of energy—especially oil and natural gas. Additionally, it calls for decision makers to recognize that massive increases to the costs of producing and consuming products made from oil and natural gas are actually designed to reduce production and supplies, reduce employment, increase imports, increase consumer costs and threaten government revenue.
Please tell members of Congress that they should encourage oil and natural gas exploration and that plans to impose massive taxes and fees on the oil and natural gas industry are simply counterproductive.
Canada is our nation’s number one supplier of oil and natural gas—yet some organizations want to reduce or eliminate U.S. access to energy from Canada’s plentiful oil sands. It is critical that the administration and Congress hear from you in opposition to new restrictions on U.S. access to Canadian oil sands. Access to energy from Canada is vital to America’s economy and energy security.
Please tell members of Congress that they should encourage oil and natural gas exploration, including U.S. access to Canadian oil sands.
