RESTORE FUNDING FOR LOUISIANA MEDICAID PATIENTS - JUNE 2, 2009

The version of the state budget (HB 1, the “General Appropriations Bill”) being considered by the Louisiana Senate includes significant cuts to hospital services provided to Medicaid patients. The cuts mirror the recommendations in Governor Bobby Jindal’s executive budget.

Hospital services for Medicaid patients face a 7.2 percent reduction, plus other reductions, totaling over $200 million. Funding for patients of CHRISTUS Health would be reduced by more than $7 million. As advocates of extending the healing mission of Jesus Christ, we strongly support the restoration of Medicaid funding to levels that adequately address the care of Louisiana Medicaid patients.

HB 1 will be debated on the Senate floor this week!
