Expanding health insurance coverage to the uninsured is a top priority for the American Medical Association (AMA). We need your help to make it a priority for Congress. Tell Congress to support the AMA’s proposal today.
The AMA’s proposal to cover the uninsured focuses on fairness, patient freedom of choice, assistance based on financial need and health insurance market reform.
The three main elements of the AMA proposal for expanding health insurance coverage are:
- Enable the selection, choice and purchase of individually owned health insurance
- Establish income-related tax credits for purchasing health insurance
- Streamline rules for purchasing affordable health insurance

Being uninsured isn't just a statistic or a problem---it's a tragedy. There are 46 million uninsured patients in the United States who want, but don't have, access to health care coverage.
To accomplish the goal, we need to:
• Provide all Americans with the means to purchase health care coverage.
• Give individuals choices to select the appropriate coverage for themselves and their families.
• Promote market reforms that enable this new approach.
I support the American Medical Association's proposal which has common-sense health care solutions designed to empower America's families.
The AMA proposal expands coverage through tax credits which would provide help to those who need it most---lower-income Americans. It gives individuals choices so they can select the best plan for themselves and their families, and it promotes fair rules that include protections for high-risk patients and greater individual responsibility.
